Subfloor preparation

We fix unevenness, height differences and surface defects so the subfloor is ready for the new floor.

Includes

  • Unevenness
  • Differences in height
  • Surface defects
Wet levelling compound across most of a room, with a mixing bucket and a spreader on the bare slab in front.

Subfloor preparation gets the base ready for the floor going on top. We correct unevenness, differences in height and surface defects.

We work on concrete slabs and on timber, particleboard and plywood subfloors.

Small concrete cuts, for conduit, drainage pipes or a bathroom, are on the Specialist work page.

What we look for

  • A straight edge across a slab touches in a few places, with light showing through the gaps beneath it.

    Unevenness

A wavy floor with no single high or low point.

  • A spirit level held level across a doorway, with a small rule under its far end measuring the drop to the floor in the next room.

    Differences in height

A step or change in level between rooms or at a doorway.

  • A hairline crack running across a bare slab, and a patch of broken surface beside it.

    Breaks and cracks

Broken edges and cracks in the existing surface.
